The best snow cover in recent memory has made this a red-letter day for the official start of the season at Panorama Mountain Village –- the full 4,000 vertical feet is ready for skiers and riders.
With a 29” (72cm) summit base and 77 trails and bowls skiable, including powder spots like Taynton Bown, the Extreme Dream Zone and Sun bowl, conditions are excellent and likely to be even better after an expected snowfall this weekend.
In a press release of Friday, December 11, 2009, Panorama’s marketing manager, Marke Dickson said that the mountain operations crew had been busy since early October, preparing the mountain for this day.
So far this year, Panorama has hosted World Cup and Olympic racers from Canada, Italy, Great Britain and New Zealand. Private ski clubs from across North America have trained on the slopes as well as the Canadian men’s snowboard team, based at the resort, enabling Olympic hopeful Jasey Jay Anderson practise time on snow before his big challenge at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler, BC.
All lifts will be operational this weekend and several events are scheduled:
-
Friday – Downhill Riders Snow Safari pilgrimage arrived.
-
Saturday – 23rd Annual Ski Pro Workshop with Heather and Dan Bilodeau and world-class teachers from all over North America.
- Sunday – Northwest Funds Coupe NorAm Cup races on Old Timer and Hay Fever.
Next week, large groups of skiers and riders from Ontario and the United Kingdom will be arriving. Says Dickson, “skiers go where the snow is and right now the snow is deep at Panorama Mountain Village and it’s deep right across Western Canada.”
